In 2021, we worked with Shadowed Eyes, a self taught photographer who started documenting their exploration of the City for themselves, originally sharing their stunning photographs through social media.
City Voices funding enabled them to have their work printed for the first time, using a Gloucester based photography/print studio, and the work was mounted using frames from local charity shops, benefiting ten different charities. Volunteers at The Folk and local businesses supported the creation of an exhibition space.
The exhibition sold out. In an unexpected and heartwarming gesture, all proceeds were donated back to City Voices and The Folk.
Shadowed Eyes reputation has, rightfully, soared ever since. In their own words:
‘The support of City Voices has given me the opportunity to stage my first ever exhibition of my images; Gloucester: A Work in Progress. For that I am so grateful
I have received wonderful feedback from visitors (including some very high-profile people) about my work and gained precious insight about its worth. The exhibition was a great boost to my confidence as a photographer. I gained a valuable insight into staging an exhibition which will stand me in good stead for future exhibitions and opened up the possibility to earn a little money from my efforts.”
