Quilting Inspiration Day

Event Details

After the phenomenal success of the Costume for Gloucester in 2023, the annual textile programme, Threads, now enters its third year. In 2024, the centrepiece of the Threads exhibit in the Lady Chapel at the Cathedral will be ‘Beating Back the Past’ – an installation combining textiles, film and audio to explore the ongoing impact of the enslavement. There will be an accompanying exhibition that demonstrates the tradition of quilting in working class communities and across different cultures.

To compliment these exhibits we would like to commission 4x quilts which explore stories of “belonging and unbelonging”.  Each quilt should draw upon the history and heritage of Gloucester and a specific community, contemporary or historic. Please see the full brief here and note the deadline for applications as Thursday 21st March 2024.

Our project lead, Jo Teague, will be hosting a free inspiration event on 7th March, 2-4pm. There will be a presentation on Quilting, and artists that have used it, a chance to view the Costume of Gloucester; and the opportunity to book a one-to-one conversations with Jo Teague or Jacqui Grange to discuss your ideas for the quilt.

Spaces at this event are limited and aimed at stitching groups. Please click here to book your spot for the inspiration event and click here if you would like to book an advice session or email info@voicesgloucester.org.uk for more information.
