Join us for the launch of the ‘A Costume for Gloucester’ project, featuring special talks and workshops exploring the The Red Dress exhibit.
This session is primarily for individuals and groups who would like to be involved in the creation of ‘ A Costume for Gloucester’ – an ambitious new Voices Gloucester project, part of THREADS 2023, which will create a costume for the city to be worn on Gloucester Day, exhibited at Gloucester Cathedral in October 2023 as part of THREADS, and looked after by the Museum of Gloucester.
In partnership with The Friendship Cafe and Emma Willis Sewing Studio this training and inspiration day will kick start the project and will include talks from The Red Dress creator Kirstie Macleod, practical stitching and heritage workshops from artist Jo Teague, and Gloucestershire Archives and an opportunity to meet Katie Taylor, the designer of the Costume for Gloucester, and register an interest in creating a panel.
The event is free, with donations on the door, but click here to book to secure your spot. As this will be the first time the dress has been exhibited in Gloucester we expect the event to be very popular so do book early to avoid disappointment.
The Friendship Cafe can be found on Painswick Rd, opposite Marlborough Rd junction. From Barton St, it is 5 minutes on the left past the Barton St Police in the direction away from the town centre.
Note that limited parking is available at the venue so we would encourage taking public transport where possible. Bus stop 2 & 2A are right outside the building and it is an approx. 25 minute walk from the train station. Ample bike parking is available at the venue. Additional parking can also be found on nearby streets.
Accessibility information to follow.
Threads 2023 is a partnership project, curated/coordinated by Voices Gloucester and Jo Teague, and supported by The Folk of Gloucester, Gloucester Cathedral and the Museum of Gloucester.
